European Brass Band Championships 2018

Come visit Utrecht between 28th April and 6th May and be dazzled by the intense and multidimensional sounds of Utrecht Brass. The official programme features the European Brass Band Championships 2018, European Youth Brass Band Competition, EYBB, EBBA Soloist Competition and Gala Concert.

As added extra to the official EBBA timetable, you can also treat yourself to one of the many outdoor concerts taking place throughout the city. Be it a market square, park, canal or church, Utrecht Brass offers a wide ranging programme of concerts, lectures, conferences and workshops.

Forty young brass band players aged 18-21 from 15 European countries meet for a whole week with the purpose of making music together on a very high musical level.

Gala Concert - Brass Party

The gala concert of the EBBC will feature Utrecht in his historical and actual context and as city of music. Starting with the Roman Limes, the northern border of the Roman Empire, different time periods will be highlighted in a non-stop 60 minute multi-media programme, with different soloists that have a connection with Utrecht.

EBBC2018 will be organised by ZIMIHC, the organisation for amateur art in the city and region of Utrecht. The EBBC2018 functions as the centre of several stages and staging opportunities for brass players of different levels, different kind and different ages. The focus of the festival is to involve the already existing audience more in the world of brass music, to connect new audiences to the EBBC2018 and to contribute to the European community of brass music.

The European Brass Band Competition will take place in TivoliVredenburg. This unique venue is situated in the centre of the medieval city of Utrecht, and is a cultural hub for music and entertainment of all genres. Within its breathtaking walls, TivoliVredenburg offers numerous concert venues with perfect acoustics, suitable for symphonic music, pop, jazz, chamber music and dance, as well as cafes, bars, lounges and a restaurant.

The many spaces between these auditoriums can be used for gatherings of all kinds. The venue can accommodate a combined total of up to 7,500 people. As grand and overwhelming as the whole site may be, each separate room is marked by its own intimate and personal atmosphere.

The Great Hall, in which the EBBC concerts will take place, has a unique, octagonal auditorium with world-famous acoustics and character. It is located on the ground floor and has 1717 seats.

Fringe Programme

To celebrate EBBC2018, Utrecht Brass has created a unique fringe programme for young and old.

Picture free open air concerts in unique locations throughout the city, like parks, squares and canals. Attend an indoor concert in some of the most beautiful and acoustic churches in Utrecht, or one of our pop-up concerts that will be taking place during the week. Wherever you are, be sure to keep an eye on our events between 28th April and 6th May.
