Let’s kick some brass!

Come visit Utrecht between 28th April and 6th May and be dazzled by the intense and multidimensional sounds of Utrecht Brass. The official programme features the European Brass Band Championships 2018, European Youth Brass Band Competition, EYBB, EBBA Soloist Competition and Gala Concert.

As added extra to the official EBBA timetable, you can also treat yourself to one of the many outdoor concerts taking place throughout the city. Be it a market square, park, canal or church, Utrecht Brass offers a wide ranging programme of concerts, lectures, conferences and workshops.

Participants European Soloist Competition

42 young talented musicians from all over Europe applied by video audition for the European Soloist Competition. The jury selected 20 players who are invited to the first and second round on May 1 and May 2 in Utrecht. After these rounds, three players will be selected for the final to be held in Utrecht on May 3 in the Herz hall in TivoliVredenburg.

Soloist Competition EBBC2018 (Hapé Smeele)

Line up of bands

At the EBBC2018 a total of 26 bands will enter the stage in TivoliVredenburg. The strong line up promises an exciting and fantastic contest.

In the Championship Section reigning champion Eikanger-Bjørsvik Musikklag will defend its title, Brass Band Fröschl Hall from Austria is making its debut and home band De Wâldsang will make its 20th appearance at the EBBC.
The Challenge Section will see five bands taking part. Italian Brass Band will defend its title and will compete along with bands from Germany, Sweden, Lithuania and Northern Ireland.
The Youth Brass Band Contest will see four bands in the Development Section and five in the Premier Section. Three bands are entering for the first time; Tasta Skolekorps from Norway, Catch Bassin Brass Band from Austria and Seindorf Beaumaris Youth Brass Band from Wales will make their debuts in the contest.

Ticket prices

Ticket sales for the individual events will start on the 1st of March. Ticket prices are:
3rd May: Final of the Soloist Competition cost € 15
4th May: Championship section – € 30
5th May: Challenge section and Championship section – € 40
5th May: Gala Concert – € 32
5th May: Brass Party – € 10
6th May: European Youth Brass Band Championships – € 10 (€ 5 for under 30 years old)

Prices do not include € 1 booking fee per ticket.

The Music Commission of the European Brass Band Championship [MC] has been informed by ZIMIHC, the local organisers of next year’s European Brass Band Championships in Utrecht, that Harrie Janssen, who was commissioned by ZIMIHC to compose the set test piece, is not able to complete his work.

Test pieces European Youth Championships

The EBBA Music Commission has chosen two British works as the set tests for the European Youth Brass Band Championships. Bands in the Development Section will include Philip Sparke’s Valerius Variations in their programmes. Premier Section bands will tackle Michael Ball’s colourful Chaucer’s Tunes.

Ivan Meylemans to conduct EYBB

Ivan Meylemans is confirmed as the conductor of the 2018 European Youth Brass Band (EYBB). Meylemans was invited to lead the EYBB because of his wealth of experience from working with symphony orchestras, symphonic wind bands as well as brass bands. The EYBB consists of 35 talented musicians between 18 and 21 from all over Europe and is part of the activities around the European Brass Band Championships.

Talentvolle jonge koperblazers gezocht

Ben jij die talentvolle muzikant die Nederland vertegenwoordigt in de European Youth Brass Band 2018? In het kader van de European Brass Band Championships wordt er een European Youth Brass Band samengesteld uit jonge Europese muzikanten. Ben je tussen 18 en 22 jaar (geboren na 1 juni 1996 en voor 1 april 2000) en heb je minimaal je C-diploma of gelijkwaardig niveau en wil je graag deel uit maken van deze jeugdbrassband meld je dan snel aan!

European Youth Brass Band

European Soloist Competition 2018

Young soloists who originate from or who are resident in European Brass Band Association member countries are invited to compete in the 8th European Soloist Competition for Brass and Percussion Instruments. The European Brass Band Association (EBBA) organises the competition as part of the 41th European Brass Band Championships 2018 in Utrecht. The competition will be held 1st to 3rd May 2018.

Fringe Programme

To celebrate EBBC2018, Utrecht Brass has created a unique fringe programme for young and old.

Picture free open air concerts in unique locations throughout the city, like parks, squares and canals. Attend an indoor concert in some of the most beautiful and acoustic churches in Utrecht, or one of our pop-up concerts that will be taking place during the week. Wherever you are, be sure to keep an eye on our events between 28th April and 6th May.
